Avaya has acquired Aurix, a speech analytics and audio data mining technology specialist based in the U.K. Avaya will add Aurix technology to its contact center and unified communications (UC) portfolios, the company said Wednesday.

Financial terms of the deal weren't provided. Aurix, based in Malvern, Worcestershire, U.K., is now a wholly-owned Avaya subsidiary.

Aurix's portfolio includes speech analysis software, including a phonetic speech search engine, recorded data and business applications covering everything from compliance checking to managed forensic analysis, and a professional services business that offers design consulting and implementation support relevant to speech analytics. Aurix's software is open architecture, and integrates with Avaya's UC platform, Aura, as well as products from other vendors.

"The value of document search engines is widely understood. There's another dimension of data that is largely untapped, however, and that is the information exchanged through spoken interactions," said Brett Shockley, senior vice president, corporate development, strategy and innovation at Avaya, in a statement. "Aurix's technology will help enable Avaya's customers to quickly find the interactions that can impact their ability to attain high customer satisfaction and increase revenue generation. The analysis of these interactions can drive enhancements in processes that advance their business objectives."

The Aurix buy comes hot on the heels of Avaya's acquisition of security company Sipera, closed earlier this month. Avaya, which is preparing for an initial public offering, acquired Nortel's former enterprise unit in 2009, and has continued to make smaller, spot acquisitions since then, including Konftel earlier this year.
